A reconfigurable system of chatter stability evaluation and monitoring for industrial machining processes

چکیده
This paper introduces an online prototype system including two independent modules of chatter stability prediction and monitoring for industrial applications. Turning processes are considered. At first, the stability charts are analysed by the Laplace transform. The charts obtained can assist the operators in selecting appropriate machining parameters before operations. Secondly, the characteristics of chatter are extracted in accordance with the variance and spectrum of vibration signals. The corresponding thresholds are adaptively confirmed by comparing the acquired signal with the stored stable cutting signal on line. Thirdly, the algorithms and modules introduced are implemented with the combination of the advantages of MATLAB and C sharp programming, in which delay strategy and overlap processing technique enable to improve the accuracy and performance of the system. Finally, industrial turning trials were conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed system.

In precision machining processes, major problems can be related to the condition of the cutting tool. Online tool condition monitoring is hence of great industrial interest. To empower the machining system with adaptivity and intelligence required, an embedded tool condition monitoring system (eTCM) has been developed for online detection of machining process abnormities such as tool breaking, ...
متن کاملHigher order statistics estimation of the modelling error for chatter monitoring
This paper proposes a design method for chatter monitoring based on the fourth order statistics estimation applied to the modelling error. Usually, a test of hypothesis is built on an a priori knowledge of the statistical distribution. The frequency function is often assumed Gaussian. In the case of machining process without chatter, the Gaussian assumption is not valid. Consequently, the propo...
متن کاملCreating a Stability Lobe Diagram
Machine tool chatter causes machining instability, surface roughness, and tool wear in metal cutting processes. A stability lobe diagram based on regenerative chatter theory is an effective tool to predict and control chatter. Stability diagrams can be applied in machining processes to optimize the maximum depth of cut at the highest available spindle speed, thus improving the material removal ...
متن کاملMachining Stability and Machine Tool Dynamics
Machining is a common manufacturing process in industry due to its high flexibility and ability to produce parts which excellent quality. The productivity and quality in machining operations can be limited by several process constraints one of which is the self-excited chatter vibrations. Under certain conditions, the process may become unstable yielding oscillations with high amplitudes which ...
متن کاملChatter control in the high-speed milling process using μ-synthesis
Chatter is an instability phenomenon in machining processes which limits productivity and results in inferior workpiece quality, noise and rapid tool wear. The increasing demand for productivity in the manufacturing community motivates the development of an active control strategy to shape the chatter stability boundary of manufacturing processes. In this work a control methodology for the high...
